All Aboard!

A brand new edition of our “Lakotan Lands & Identities” workshop on wheels departed the Central High School parking lot in Rapid City  this morning. The five-day classroom on wheels rolled off with four CAIRNS team members as instructors. Highlights of this first day included extended stops at Wind Cave National Park in the morning and then Fort Robinson State Park early afternoon. There, in the welcomed shade, the participants, mostly staff of Youth and Family Services, ate lunches in three groups and discussed coursepacket readings of the September 5, 1877, killing of the Lakotan leader, Crazy Horse. CAIRNS team members facilitated the discussions. Afterwards, participants critically evaluated the nearby museum and then gathered at the very spot where Crazy Horse was bayonetted in the back by a U.S. soldier.
