Lakota Emergence at Willamette University
Tuesday, April 18, 2023
Today the CAIRNS director was on the campus of Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. During the day he visited two classes and then late this afternoon he presented a public talk, “Lakota Emergence: Imagining a Future of American Indian Art Exhibits.” The talk gave a peek “behind-the-curtain” of how and why the Lakota Emergence exhibit was organized and developed. Following the talk, he and the attendees moved to the first floor of the University library where the community version of the exhibit was on display. There he led the attendees through the emergence narrative, referencing the exhibit text panels and the panels with photographs of the original artworks that were created by 16 Lakotan artists in 2015. Lakota Emergence was the first exhibit developed under our Lakota Educational Arts Project.
