Lakota Lands Training Seminar - Day 2
Tuesday, July 12, 2022
The route for Day 2 of the Lakota Lands Traveling Seminar entered Pine Ridge Reservation south of Scenic and after a few miles stopped briefly at the location where an Oglala Sioux Tribe covid-19 checkpoint was located. The seminar coursepacket included a May 10, 2020, Rapid City Journal article about tribal checkpoints in Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River reservations, and a May 9, 2020, letter from 17 South Dakota state legislators to the governor of South Dakota “concerning your letters send to the duly elected Presidents of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and the Oglala Sioux Tribe.” From there, the seminar’s rolling classroom (a 56-passenger motorcoach) continued on to Sharps Corner, Kyle, Allen, and Martin, where we ate lunch in the city park. In the photo above, you can see three of the four groups of participants receiving instructions for an exciting and educational allotment exercise. Long Valley, Wanblee, and Interior were the next three towns on today’s itinerary.
