Student council members and gifted and talented students from Little Wound Middle School traveled from the Pejuta Haka District of Pine Ridge Reservation to Wingsprings, which is in the Lacreek District of the reservation. Four members of a local construction crew visited with them about building terminology, then the CAIRNS director gave them a brief tour of the main building. The CAIRNS team had a few hands-on activities for the students, one being the task of finding—on an official State of South Dakota highway map—the nine reservations in our state and highlighting them. The task is impossible since the Departments of Tourism and Transportation refuse to show two of the reservations, mislabel another, and show incorrect borders for two others.
