South Dakota State Unviersity’s chapter of NOMAS (National Organization of Minority Architecture Students) invited the CAIRNS director to share a presentation on campus titled, “Architectonics: Studying, Designing, and Building Tribe-Specific Architetures.” The talk explored a conceptual framework for organizing American Indian architetural traditions, discussed the three essential components of architecture, and argued that the purpose of ethnoarchitectonics is to assist tirbal nations in maintaining and perpetuating their communities and identities by differentiating them from each other and from nontribal communities.
