First thing this morning, the CAIRNS director Zoomed into the “Land in Lakota Culture, Economics, and History” course at WLU in Lexington, VA. The focus of the talk was allotment in Bennett County. The map above is a small area of Bennett County showing the allotments that are still in Indian Trust status. Only 25% of the land that comprises Bennett County is now in Indian Trust status. When the county was established in 1910, 100% of the land was Indian Trust status land.
